In Memoriam: Liu Chun-jo 劉君若 (1922-2012)

IN MEMORY OF LIU CHUN–JO 劉君若 (1922–2012)

Liu Chun-jo 劉君若, a founding member of CHINOPERL, a constant and active presence at its annual meetings, and one of the most beloved elders of our organization, died on September 24, 2012 in Minneapolis. Chun-jo was particularly fond of music and loved to sing. She often joined the other singers of CHINOPERL, such as Rulan Chao Pian and Lindy Li Mark, to sing original compositions and multi-part arrangements of Chinese folk tunes by Y. R. Chao at the annual CHINOPERL “frolic.” We fondly recall that, at the fortieth anniversary

CHINOPERL conference in Chicago (2009), Chun-jo led a few other old-time members in a session entitled “Remembrance of CHINOPERL Past” to remind us of a bit of the history of our organization. For those who would like to know more details about her life and career, an obituary was published in The New York Times, October 7, 2012.
